Week of Love

Week of Love

Think it’s important to be able to give and show love to those who support us. As someone who has had countless health issues that include tons of gluten pain. It becomes imperative that you learn to put yourself first and make your health a priority.

In doing so, my life has become so different than it was just a few years ago. Because my daily routines, the way I shop, the way I cook, the way I have to be prepared for any and all situations, the restaurants I can eat in, meeting friends for coffee now instead of lunches, and the hundred of other things have changed - once I realized gluten was poison to my body.

Embracing your assets!

Embracing your assets!

I came across this quote again the other day:

and I have to say with 2017 just beginning and so many of us are setting our intentions for the new year, this quote kinda stopped me in my tracks.

Why do we know more about what is lacking in us, than what is fabulous about us?

Is it because we are all so use to being judged and judging ourselves so harshly that we fail to see the beauty of who we are and who we are becoming?

Or is it because we are constantly told that we don’t measure up with our looks, our bodies, our smarts, our health, and our life?

Or maybe it's because we all feel inadequate and like a fraud in some way?

What are your non-negotiables for 2017?

What are your non-negotiables for 2017?

As 2016 is coming to a close, it’s common to look back and see how well you did with your New Year’s Resolutions, you know the ones that you made on January 1st, 2016! Far too many of us start off the year with the best of intentions but generally fall off the wagon by February and as the year is coming to end we often beat ourselves up because yet again, we will have the same resolutions in 2017.

Resolutions just don’t work, unless you have a strategy attached to help set yourself up for success. So many of us, turn to vision boards (which I personally love and create every January 1st myself), these generally work much better because we are able to see our goals every single day. We have all heard the saying energy goes where attention flows ….. and that is so true. When you focus your attention on what you want every day, somehow someway we bring these wishes into existence (most years I am always amazed at what I brought forth that I never thought would be possible).

Top 6 Tips for Removing Wheat from your Diet.

Top 6 Tips for Removing Wheat from your Diet.

Removing wheat from your diet, nowadays is so much easier yet so much more confusing for someone who has real issues with gluten. Sure there are tons of options, everybody and their brother has jumped on the gluten-free bandwagon in order to make a buck.  The problem is very few companies are concerned with taking the proper steps in order to safe guard someone’s health. It’s all too easy to say oooppss we made a mistake and recall a certain product than actually make the effort ahead of time to prevent the damage to many celiac’s health.

Gluten free has become the fat free fad of the 1980’s and it truly is causing irritable harm to true suffers of celiac disease. It has become so confusing to understand that just because a product is labeled gluten free doesn’t mean that it is safe for a celiac to eat.  So yes our grocery store shelves are literally lined with gluten free options but can a celiac really eat them? That is the question that was posed to me and I have a few tips that I’ll share that I use every time I go food shopping.

What to do when you feel left out?

What to do when you feel left out?

This is a very common question in regards to celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Most people cannot possible understand that on a bad day it takes every ounce of energy and strength you have for you to get up get dressed, showered, make-up, put yourself together and get out the door. You look fine to the rest of the world, they can’t see a difference. They have no clue how bad you may be suffering and for the most part, you get tired of talking about it. So you suffer in silence. You do the best that you can and some days that is way more than other days but no one can usually tell the difference.

So what is Zonulin all about?

So what is Zonulin all about?

Hey guys, I was watching a medical talk last week and the doctor was discussing how leaky gut is becoming more prevalent in our society. It is leading to many challenges for patients and that this is new to doctors because although scientists have made several breakthroughs in identifying molecules like zonulin there is much to be learned. It was more than half-way through his talk, that the doctor realized he needed to back-track a bit because many of the doctors in the room were unaware of how zonulin works and I thought wow. Sure I’ve heard of zonulin and understand the basics but it is quite complex so that inspired me to locate an older article explaining some of the basics of zonulin and over the next few months we’ll dive in deeper so that we all have a better understanding how to heal our bodies.

Some may ask why leaky gut is important to understand if you have celiac disease or are non-celiac gluten sensitivity and the truth is for celiacs it is a common complication and health issue that comes up when your body is not healing properly.

How to Overcome the Gluten Blues?

How to Overcome the Gluten Blues?

For me I think there are a few kinds of “gluten blues” and they seem to come at different junctures in your journey.

When you are first learning to go gluten free it is a very daunting task understanding all the nuances that go into changing every thing that you eat. Learning to navigate your kitchen, your old favorite foods, baking, cooking, eating out, dealing with friends, family and special occasions all of these take some time to learn how to survive, let alone to relax and enjoy your meals.

Loving Yourself……

Loving Yourself……

Loving yourself is not a concept that I have ever been familiar with, I knew mean, angry and hateful to myself because my body had failed me my entire life. I have always been overweight, always on a diet, new plan, exercise routine only to be slammed back into reality and derailed with pain from migraines, joint, back, hip pain and then of course stomach issues and having to live on ginger ale and plain crackers. I was angry that I had no follow through, that I couldn’t stay focused physically, that I obviously wasn’t committed enough, my body and my weight was always a constant disappointment. I even had a miscarriage and was told I lost my baby because I was too big, so you know loving my body was not a concept I ever understood until I realized that celiac was the culprit all along.

Learning to say NO……

Learning to say NO……

This is a biggie for a lot of us. And I’m gonna add learning to say NO (and mean it AND not having to explain yourself)!

For a lot of us, who run businesses, have family and friends that depend on us this is really a tough one to follow through on but it is an essential part in our healing and in our learning to put ourselves first.

My body does not run the way it use it, I cannot push it and neglect it like I did in the past. And, this has led me to realize that I have to pick and choose what I will give my time to more carefully. Certain events require more down-time for me and that too has to be added in.

Talk to him. Most likely he is scared. Your health has had to have been an issue for a while. According to the Journal of Medicine, “Every time the disease is clinically diagnosed in an adult, that person has foe decades had the disease in a latent or silent stage.”
