What are your non-negotiables for 2017?

As 2016 is coming to a close, it’s common to look back and see how well you did with your New Year’s Resolutions, you know the ones that you made on January 1st, 2016! Far too many of us start off the year with the best of intentions but generally fall off the wagon by February and as the year is coming to end we often beat ourselves up because yet again, we will have the same resolutions in 2017.  

Resolutions just don’t work, unless you have a strategy attached to help set yourself up for success. So many of us, turn to vision boards (which I personally love and create every January 1st myself), these generally work much better because we are able to see our goals every single day. We have all heard the saying energy goes where attention flows ….. and that is so true. When you focus your attention on what you want every day, somehow someway we bring these wishes into existence (most years I am always amazed at what I brought forth that I never thought would be possible).

Top 5 Tips on Celiac Cheating….

I’m not sure why but this week in particular several celiacs have talked about cheating whether that be on social media or in person. One of my friends was in about shock that after all this time, that I don’t ever have cheat days. Clearly they still don’t understand what it means to have celiac disease so these conversations prompted today’s post.

So here are my best tips regarding celiac disease and cheating.

Tip #1: Don’t cheat!

This is not a diet, this is not about trying to be eat right a few days a week and then it’s okay to fall off the wagon once a week, on special occasions, or holidays. Celiac disease is a LIFELONG autoimmune disease, not a diet. Lifelong as in for the rest of your life, I/we cannot eat gluten. So there are NO cheat days EVER!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Imaging living your life with a disease that no one understands. Imagine what it’s like if no one believed you, when you said you weren’t well. Imagine going to the doctors and being told that your sickness was all in your head. Imagine what it’s like to live with a disease that is widely made fun of an is the butt of many jokes. Imagine being afraid every time you put something in your mouth, it could make you sick. Imagine eating something and getting so sick that you spend the day in the bathroom or sleeping all day because you are too weak to shower or having such brain fog that you can’t remember your phone number to ask for help. Imagine that this sickness if not treated properly will most likely lead to an early death due to a host of other complications…. this is what it’s like to have celiac disease.
